Rise to the Challenge
Name: K'lan
Age: 21 Turns
Gender: Male
Rank: Weyrleader of Southern Weyr
Family:
- Father: K'tor (Kataltor), Bronze Talth, deceased
- Mother: Lanna, Drudge, 36
- Siblings: Katanna, Sister, Apprentice Healer, 17 (Twin to L’tor)
: L’tor, Lantor, Brother, Blue Quinlath, 17 (Twin to Katanna)
: Tala, Sister, Apprentice Beasthandler, 14
Appearance: Always taking after his father, he is well built and rather handsome. He has dark auburn hair that is kept short in the Terran military cut. K’lan has devious blue-gray eyes that are always looking for loop holes and cunning plans. Despite his height of 6’2”, he is rather lanky; the only muscle on his body is that necessary for riding Serath. He always wears tan breeches and some neutral color of tunic, as well as his black wherhide boots. They are one of his most valuable possessions, as well as his riding leathers. K’lan has a prideful air of carrying himself, and it has been known to irritate some of the other bronze riders, who think that one as young as K’lan should not be in charge.
Personality: Cunning and sometimes spontaneous, K’lan is a born leader, with the wit to lead the deteriorating Weyr with a high head and a plan to help Southern regroup; even if that means kidnapping one or both of the new Golds at Silent Weyr. He has many plans stored in his head, but has shared them only with a few trusted riders because he does not trust easily. He is not always even tempered, and has been known to explode over minor problems, especially when he was already frustrated. K’lan doesn’t think much of relationships, and has contented himself with a few casual flings. He is a bronze rider after all. But he is fiercely loyal to people that are his friends, family or people that he trusts. Maybe he will find someone to love and keep close, but with the way life has been dragging him and Serath into larger problems.
History:
K’lan was born in the Weyr and grew up in his mothers arms. His father was a bronze rider, and had little time for his drudge “wife” or weyrbrat children. But that didn’t bother K’lan, who grew up to be astute and quite intelligent. He was also the picture of his father, save his mothers blue-gray eyes. He helped take care of his twin brother and sister until he was old enough to start training as a candidate. He then proceeded to leave his family and only visited when he was not busy speaking with his candidate friends or training with the candidate master. He was ten when this happened. He stood many times in the five years between his beginning in candidacy and his impression to Serath.
The impression took place five years ago, in the beginning of the rainy season. It was a damp day, and everyone was holed up inside, except for those whose dragons needed to be fed or bathed. K’lan was down in the kitchens, helping his mother when the hum was taken up. He was rushed to the candidate quarters and urged towards the sands. The last of the clutch impressed him. It was a large bronze named Serath. Their bond was immediate and strong, their personalities similar, but different enough to make them perfect for each other.
K’lan soon made his way up through the social ladder and ranks, his charm and wit captivating both the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader. Five years later, they are both dead and after a period of turmoil, K’lan is in charge of Southern Weyr. There are many older riders that detest his rule, but he rules them proudly, making sure everyone knows he is in command and is planning to help Southern regroup to what it once was. If only he would share his plans with other people…
Dragon Stats
Name: Serath
Age: 5 Turns
Description: A large bronze, Ser is not as muscular as other bronzes, but with a larger-than-average wingspan, he makes up for it with speed that is rarely heard of in bronzes. He is a true bronze, with a shining hide that borders on metallic. He has darker dapples of bronze over his hindquarters and hind legs, as well as the forepart of both of his wings. Ser has one scar on his body from his hatching; it is along his right front leg and is a sliver of white among a sea of bronze.
Color: Bronze
Personality: Like his rider, he is quite the charmer and one of the eye catchers of the Weyr. He likes to show that he is on top by performing wild aerial displays and winning many bets and dares. However, this wild dragon does have a heavier, more serious side. He knows how to take command of a situation, and calm nervous riders and dragons. He likes to flirt when the time calls for it, and enjoys flights thoroughly. He is itching to have another queen at Southern, and is plotting with his Rider on ways to get one.
Clutch: Gold Henith (deceased) and Bronze Xulath (deceased)
Impressing Details:
The last egg on the sands was large, and the people in the tiers were optimistic. Maybe there was a queen hidden within the dull egg that was fighting with itself, fervently trying to free itself from the trap it had gotten into. One of the previous hatchlings had pushed the egg into a minute hole of sand, and the hatchling was having a heck of a time getting out of the shell and the catch. Katalan, one of the hopeful candidates standing nervously on the sands and willing the last egg to hatch, had planted his feet in the scorching sands and stubbornness could be seen in every aspect of his stance. His mouth was set in a calm line, arms crossed against his teen chest. His eyes, which resembled the sea on a calm day, were staring at the egg, unblinking and somewhat unnerving. His mother and siblings were in the stands, and he had to impress them. Especially since, he was expected to follow his father’s example and impress either a bronze or a brown.
A hairline fracture appeared on the shell, and with a sudden burst of energy, the hatchling exploded his shell, chirping at the world. Stumbling from his egg fragments, he wandered towards the candidates. There were many eager faces. Nevertheless, there was only one for him. They were similar, and Serath knew they would do great things together. K’lan, I am your Serath. Before we start planning, can we eat?
