{So much is going to change...}
-Crysanthemuth, senior queen of Victory's End Weyr
Five-hundred turns ago, thread was finally defeated. AIVAS and Master Robinton passed into another realm, and Lessa and F'lar retired to the Southern Continent along with their faithful dragonriders. For five-hundred turns, the Weyrs established a new order, relying solely on themselves for food, clothing, necessities, and candidates. No longer did they turn to the Halls and Holds for tithes or Searches. They became reclusive and turned away from the other residents of Pern.
That is, until ten turns ago, the Weyr Conclave decided to build a huge Weyr- a final testament to the dragonriders' wonderful defeat of thread. They named it Victory's End Weyr and it took ten turns to complete.
Right before completion, the Conclave met again to name a Weyrwoman. Two candidates were chosen as leaders of the rest of the queenriders, Circe with gold Crysanthemuth from Southern Weyr, and Jilian with gold Surath from Paradise River Weyr. By acts of flirtation and secret "favors", Circe was named Weyrwoman, Jilian Junior Weyrwoman.
Circe decided that a huge Gather was to be held to open the Weyr. All of Pern would be invited, including Holders and Crafters. It was to be the grandest Gather Pern had ever seen and it truly was. People from all over Pern came to partake in the races, the food, and the fun. But things went terribly wrong. First, Crysanthemuth rose in Flight. Many of the bronzes and browns from all over the Southern Continent came to chase her. But during the middle of the flight, Thread suddenly returned to Pern, and havoc reigned.
After several days of fighting thread, the wings were able to rest, but not without a huge price. Two riders from Victory's End Weyr alone had been killed, and the Weyrleaders themselves had been terribly injured in the fall. The constant in-and-out of going between during Threadfall destroyed some of the eggs, and deformed almost half of Crysanthemuth's small clutch.
Now, hardening gently on the warm sands are those thirteen cryptic eggs, near to Hatching...
